Inner City South's

History in the making

Inner City South (ICS) are community activists and  spoken word artists that use the art of poetry to promote unity and change. With a vision for the future, this multi-faceted organization is creating new ways to expand the art form of spoken word.

Best described as "Poetry in Motion," this husband and wife  duo are powerhouse performers with a style all their own.

T-Remedi is a storyteller that speaks the parables of everyday people.  His rhythmic delivery weaves strength into the fabric of his poetry, creating vivid pictures that translate from the page to the stage.  T-Remedi believes that nation building begins with the family, and in order to heal our nation we must find ways to repair our family.

Ms. Dee-Lite, a lyrical femme fatal is a triple threat- poet, actress and playwright.  She captivates audiences with her high energy in your face style.  Ms. Dee-lite is committed to sisterhood and the upliftment of her community.  She knows that together we can make a difference.

In 2004, Ms. Dee-Lite  founded the annual Sickle Cell Benefit "Dinner and Divas"  that showcases local talent and gives a voice to the terminal disease.  This dinner theatre experience has been Inner City South's  greatest testament of spoken word's power to effect change.   Funds raised benefit the Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee (SCFT).  SCFT provides educational and social services to individuals living with this debilitating disease.

In 2006, ICS were the recipients of the "Humanitarian Award" at the eleventh annual Stone Awards.  When asked about the award, T-Remedi states "It is a great honor to be recognized by the community for the work that we are doing"

As members of the playwright group the "Black Ink Writers," T-Remedi  and Ms. Dee-Lite penned in 2007 the stage play "Rhyme and Reason...The Hip-Hopera, " an examination of the politics, pressures and pitfalls associated with being a successful artist in the hip-hop industry.  A comical yet compelling satire that is a must see for true hip-hop fans.

With the release of their debut album, Southern Swagger, in 2008 ICS has fused a clever hybrid of spoken word, hip-hop and the soul of the south.  Their use of universal messages leave their audience enlightened yet entertained. in contrast to today’s poplar trends of materialism and empty rhetoric.  Instead, they speak of subjects such as: the importance of family, overcoming trials, and self-love.
